The Southern Shires Bloodhounds hunt the "natural scent of man". The pack has been established since the start of the hunting season in 1994. The hunt is currently kennelled at Park Farm, Wherwell. It is a small friendly pack, hopefully with riders going home safe, having had an enjoyable days hunting with us
Hunting with Bloodhounds is a field sport within its own right. Hunting with Bloodhounds is often described as hunting the "clean boot". This means the "quarries" shoes are free from all artificial scents, unlike Drag Hunting, where they use foxhounds to hunt an enhanced or artificial scent. So you can see the two types of hunting are quite different and should never be confused
There is one thing with all hunting that should never be taken for granted. If it were not for the kind generosity of the Landowners, Farmers and Game Keepers, then there would be no hunting at all, so the Southern Shires Bloodhounds thanks all its Land owners, Farmers and game Keepers for their continued support. We as followers of field sports should always respect the land upon which we hunt.
The Hounds rides will start at 10am, they will
consist of walk and trot across the
surrounding farms. A great chance for your
horses to get fit and to meet the hounds.
